No boots? get a pair of leg warmers!!!

Well, snow came and stayed only for a bit, enough to get us out and go sledding with the girls. It was so much fun!!! I realized I need better snow boots. But now the temperature is not bad, in the 30's this week, which has caused all the snow to melt. Oh well, I won't miss it too much!! :)

These past weeks, I worked on this leg warmers for my sister-in-law. They really did not take me long to make. I am not very fond of the color, but they look nice. I tried to find a pattern for leg warmers, but I couldn't find what I wanted. You can start by casting 26 on an 11 size circular needle. If you have thicker calves you can cast on 46 instead. This is only for this kind of yarn. I used Homespun from Lion Brand.
The stitch is quite easy, just 4 rounds of knits and then 6 rounds of purls, then repeat to you get to the ribbing. They are soft and warm, which I didn't expect from acrylic yarn.
If you don't have boots, you can totally wear these over leggins, if you want to wear them over jeans, I will suggest casting more, otherwise they will be kind of tight. My next pair will be for the girls and I am using wool, to see how much warmer they are. So let me know if you make a pair, or if you need more instructions to make a pair. The pictures are not that wonderful because my 5 year old took them, but you can still appreciate them, right?. Thank you for reading and stay warm!!

Mrs. Bear comes to life!!!

It is finally snowing in Chicago, it has been snowing since 11:00 a.m. today, right now it is 4:30 p.m. On days like this I wish I was a bear so I could be hibernating in my cozy, warm cave with my cozy, warm, fur coat on. But since I am not a bear, on days like this I knit, or bake "Bocado de Reina", or have a tea party with the girls, or sneak a little nap while they play. My dear other half is home today too, I love that!

So, I have been knitting quite a bit lately. My niece's birthday was this past Monday, she turned 2, she is not into anything specific. Last Sunday I was having a hard time thinking of a present for her. By Tuesday I was totally anxious about it. Until I took the girls to the Library and found this great book, "Last Minute Knitted Gifts" by Joelle Hoverson. I love this book, this lady shares in her book different gifts and the time each one will take you to finish. I love that!! so by Friday I had decided to make this cute bear.

I took me the whole weekend to finish. This is how it looked like on Monday, at the Birthday Party!!! I know lame, but I tried, I really did. Still I couldn't finish it because I have to admit, I don't know how to sew mouths, noses, and eyes!! I mean look at that mouth! all crooked, but as my sister said, it gives it character. Well, I still couldn't do the eyes.

So I went with the easy way, buttons!!! it looks cute, right? I did the scarf from soft, bulky 20% wool. I sew a little moon in the back cause she likes the moon. Then I washed it and now it is all soft!! The stuffing is the kind people use for quilts.

Now, my problem is that this little girl loves it! she is going to be so sad when I give it to her cousin! :(
I am not going to show you the one that lady made and has in her book cause hers is cuter, better looking. But to be the first one I think it is not too bad. In my defense, I used different, thicker yarn, not 100% alpaca like she did. But I think it looks cute, So, my next post will be on these leg warmers I finished.
Thank you for reading!!
